| Carols & Christmas Music for Choir and Audience |
Our popular concert features a wide variety of Christmas music including well-known and much-loved traditional carols and Christmas songs, some of which the audience are invited to join in singing. Other pieces such as Charpentier’s ‘Kyrie’ from his Messe de Minuit pour Noël (based on traditional French carols), Bob Chilcott’s ‘The Sparrows’ Carol’, and Cecil Broadhurst’s ‘Cowboy Carol’ may be less well-known but have great appeal.
Other seasonal music includes ‘Let it Snow’, ‘Sleigh Ride’ and ‘Caribbean Christmas’. These have very entertaining arrangements by the choir’s music director and conductor Kenneth Roberts for the Cinque Ports Brass Ensemble, which accompanies the concert along with Nigel Howard on piano and keyboard. Kenneth Roberts usually cannot resist playing saxophone as well! Soprano Helen Bailey joins the choir as soloist in some of the choral pieces, as well as performing solo items such as Handel’s joyful ‘Rejoice, Rejoice’ (Messiah), adding another flavour to the musical feast.
Tickets are £15 in advance and £17 on the door (£12 for Friends of Bexhill Choral Society), available in advance from Second Spin in Sackville Road, choir members, or from Ticketsource - ticketsource.co.uk/bcs or phone 0333 666 3366. Advance booking is strongly recommended.
Come along and enjoy a wonderful evening of music!

| Concert 2nd May 2026 - Elijah |
Bexhill Choral Society has an exciting mix of concerts and other events planned for 2026.
After a break for Christmas and New Year, rehearsals start again on 14th January, when we will be starting work on Mendelssohn’s famous and dramatic oratorio Elijah.
Written for the 1846 Birmingham Music Festival, and in 2025 showcased as the closing concert of the Edinburgh Festival, the score combines Baroque grandeur with gorgeous Romantic orchestration, and is packed with thrilling choruses and lyrical solos and ensembles. This is planned for Saturday 2nd May 2026 at the De La Warr Pavilion – a big space to fill, so we hope for lots of support!

January would be an excellent time to join the choir if you’re thinking of giving choral music a go, or know anyone else who might be interested! There is increasing evidence that singing in a choir brings real health and social benefits as well as enjoyment. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings 6.50-8.50 p.m., at Little Common Community Centre, Shepherd’s Close, Bexhill TN39 4SQ, and invite people to come along free of charge for a few weeks to see how they get on. It’s helpful if you have some ability to follow written music, but we don't have auditions.
